Wheat sensitive? Five things you should know 24 Jul 2010

'I'm so tired of being sick, sick of being tired, worn out from struggling with headaches, 'flu and stomach issues, spending all my money at the pharmacy – I just want a way out of this and move forward. There is a position coming up in my department that I really want and deserve. But I am off colour and snapping at people.
I so need a way out of this abyss. I do suspect wheat sensitivity is part of it. Could you please comment?'
Veronica W., Sydney Australia

Food intolerance symptoms overlap
Hi Veronica - Yes, wheat could be the problem, but it may not be. Please don't go jumping into a wheat-free diet - it could be a waste of time.

We see it so often – people start eating wheat-free but the problem may be Gluten or Dairy or Fructose and so they get nowhere.

The trouble is - your symptoms overlap with all four food intolerances: Gluten, Dairy Yeast and Fructose. You need to find out which it is. We care about your health, and your time and effort – and we want to make sure you get success first time around.

Let's get a positive identification of the intolerance first by using a journal, and then change your diet. Makes sense doesn't it?

Then you can move forward, get your health back on track and get on with your life. . maybe even go after that new job! The Detection Diet in the Healing Program will find your intolerance – guaranteed or your money back.

You are lucky - you have symptoms
Lots of people have your symptoms – you are definitely not alone. Up to 75% of all people have some kind of food intolerance – but the vast majority of them are unaware and untreated.

Their intolerances however are working away in the background and at some stage they will appear – possibly as serious diseases like diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis or even bowel cancer: read more

Veronica - you are lucky – your symptoms are visible and have made you go looking for answers. Spare a thought for those who have no noticeable symptoms and suspect nothing . . we believe everybody should screen themselves for food intolerance whether they have symptoms or not.

Wheat sensitivity: Five things to know

1. Leaky Gut Syndrome
Firstly, if you have wheat allergy or food intolerance - cutting back on suspect foods is not enough: Why? One reason is because food intolerance causes 'Leaky gut syndrome'.

That means some food proteins (like Gluten, or casein - milk protein) actually tear tiny holes in the lining of your small intestine. Now foreign things (like bacteria and yeast) can get into your bloodstream which then delivers them to all other parts of your body - your muscles, bones and organs like the liver, brain, kidney and thyroid.

Scary stuff! Even with very tiny amounts your immune system picks up on the gremlins - setting your body on 'alert'.

SO EVEN IF you reduce your suspect foods, you'll still get symptoms . . like headache, chronic tiredness, sinus pain, skin outbreaks, mood swings, mouth ulcers, diarrhea, constipation, thrush or reduced resistance to infections. That's why we say symptoms are signals and should not be ignored.

And that's why 'cutting back' is not enough. You have to avoid that food completely. And with thousands of foods available - you need a full and comprehensive guide to foods: like the Complete Guide series in the Healing program.

But how can you be sure wheat is the problem? Do you have proof?

2. Delayed reactions confuse you
Symptoms of food intolerance can take days to appear. Say you have a bad headache on Tuesday afternoon. If it's food intolerance, it might be from something you ate on the weekend - Yes! Two days ago!

Leaky Gut syndrome can take some hours, even days to show up as a symptom. So, what you eat today (like a favourite food) might not bring a reaction today.

Foolishly you think you can eat it anytime. Think again! This might be why you get chronic eczema or chesty cough or stomach bloating or -------- (insert your favourite symptom).

Unlike straight up food allergies, food intolerance can take many days to give a response. That's why it's so tricky to nail down without using a journal.
You need to use a journal and keep notes of all your symptoms and foods eaten. It's the only way to get proof.

The brilliant Detection Diet will find your food intolerance, and carries a money-back guarantee.

3. You must get proof
Please don't guess! And don't go on a 'hunch'. You don't know for sure that wheat is your problem, do you? Don't just guess from what you've read or heard. (Remember Wheat-free is not the same as Gluten-free. Know the difference)

The best way to get proof is an Elimination Diet, or our easy version, the brilliant Detection Diet in the Healing Program. It's simple to follow and accurate.

So . . . first positively identify your food intolerance (Detection Diet) THEN review your eating. Makes sense doesn't it?

4. Could it be two intolerances?
Did you know sensitive people often have more than one food intolerance? Some Gluten intolerant people are also sensitive to Dairy, Fructose or Yeast (recurring fungal infections).

Only the Detection Diet journal will find all your sensitivities. Then use the Complete Guides to maximise your options. They show you how to shop in the supermarket, dining out guides, recipes, everything!
But there's one more thing.

5. Moral support for your journey
We understand you will have questions. And our great support team is here for you - they are all knowledgeable and fully understand the process. They have all been through it too. We are here for you 24/7.
